A good vacuum cleaner can be a carpet's best friend. Regular, thorough vacuuming removes loose dirt and dust from inside the fibers of your carpet. Over time these small particles dull the carpet's appearance therefore frequent vacuuming will keep the fibers' good appearance and extend their life. High traffic areas may need vacuuming more frequently. Make sure to use a vacuum with a good beater bar and maximum suction. Be advised that looped carpets can snag, particularly at a seam or at a carpet transition. Do not vacuum over loose yarn or try to pull the snag out. The snag could become larger and begin to unravel. It's best to treat your carpet as you would an expensive blouse when you see a loose thread. If a loose yarn is exposed, carefully snip the yarn without catching any of the surrounding loops.

Any time a spill occurs it should be treated as soon as possible. Immediately blot up as much of the liquid or debris with a dry cloth or paper towel. The longer you wait the more the stain will soak into the carpet's fibers. Rubbing or scrubbing the carpet with a rag will damage the fibers and permanently scar the appearance of your carpet. Use warm (not hot) water to rinse the stained area completely. Press clean cloths deeply into the carpet to take up any remaining moisture until the stain no longer appears on the cloth.

If a stain remover is needed, make sure excess moisture is blotted before applying. Make sure not to over apply. Next thoroughly rinse the area with warm water, then absorb the excess dampness with a clean cloth. After carpet has dried, vacuum the carpet to restore texture.

Time and use will naturally take its toll on your carpet.
